The Road Trip Co Environmental Policy

Our Commitment

At The Road Trip Co, we are committed to creating memorable, enriching travel experiences that also respect and protect the environment. These principles guide the way we operate our business, both on the road and in our offices, and reflect our dedication to sustainable and responsible travel.

Scope of this Policy

This policy applies to all The Road Trip Co employees, partners, and customers. It outlines our environmental goals and best practices and may be updated over time. We encourage everyone involved with our tours to adopt these practices to help us operate responsibly and sustainably.

Guiding Principles

  • Alignment with our mission to provide exceptional travel experiences while respecting people and the planet.
  • Alignment with our core values, including care for the environment and the communities we visit.

Environmental Policy

On the Road

  • We operate modern, fuel-efficient minibuses to reduce emissions and environmental impact.
  • Our tours are small-group experiences, allowing for higher-quality service while minimizing environmental pressure on the areas we visit.
  • Departure points are centrally located to reduce traffic congestion and encourage customers to use public transport.
  • Where possible, we partner with locally owned accommodations and services to support local communities.
  • We encourage visits to local shops, restaurants, and attractions to promote sustainable economic growth.
  • Tour itineraries are designed to suit local conditions, balancing visitor enjoyment with environmental protection.
  • We enforce a zero-litter policy on our vehicles and encourage recycling of packaging and waste.
  • Staff are encouraged to use public transport or cycles for commuting.
  • Customers are provided with travel guidance to encourage sustainable transport to our tours.
  • Vehicle cleaning is conducted with controlled water runoff to prevent environmental contamination.
  • Guides carry litter bags for responsible disposal of waste during tours and encourage customers to participate.

In Our Offices

  • We recycle paper, cans, glass, plastic, and uniforms and re-use materials wherever possible.
  • Lost property is donated to local charities after two weeks.
  • Energy use is monitored and reduced wherever feasible.
  • Offices use low-energy lighting, and appliances are switched off when not in use.
  • Recycled paper and ink cartridges are prioritised.
  • Biodegradable, low-phosphate cleaning products are used.
  • Office locations are chosen for easy access via public transport, walking, or cycling.
  • We support charitable organisations when sourcing services or maintenance.
  • Flexible working and remote working options reduce commuting emissions, energy consumption, and office waste.
  • Employees are encouraged to participate in a Cycle to Work Scheme.
  • Outdoor spaces are managed to encourage biodiversity.
  • A Clear Desk Policy reduces paper consumption.
  • Business travel policies prioritise energy efficiency and sustainability.

Leave No Trace Principles

To preserve the natural environment and protect local communities, we encourage the following practices:

  • Carry a litter bag for all refuse and dispose of it responsibly.
  • Travel quietly and respect natural sounds.
  • Stay on designated paths and trails; avoid shortcutting, even in wet conditions.
  • Observe and photograph nature rather than collect plants or wildlife.
  • Never discard cigarette butts, gum, or other litter.
  • Walk carefully to avoid trampling vegetation or disturbing soil.
  • Respect all local signs, regulations, and special concerns for the area.
  • Park responsibly to avoid obstructing local traffic, emergency access, or farm operations.
  • Respect property, fences, walls, and farm animals.
  • Respect other visitors and protect the quality of their experience.
  • Observe wildlife from a distance, avoiding sensitive periods such as mating or nesting.
  • Do not feed wildlife or farm animals.
  • Preserve historical and archaeological sites; do not remove or damage artefacts.
  • Conserve natural habitats, leaving rocks, flowers, plants, and other features as found.

Review and Continuous Improvement

We will regularly review our environmental practices to ensure continuous improvement, monitor our environmental performance, and encourage staff and customers to contribute to sustainable travel.
